Channing Tatum Announces Second Book of ‘Sparkella’

Channing Tatum, actor/author, will release The One and Only Sparkella Makes a Plan on May 3, 2022, following the success of The One and Only Sparkella.

Tatum’s second book, illustrated by Kim Barnes, is about perseverance in the face of adversity.

Tatum tells PEOPLE via email, “It was a little more organic this time.” “I began investigating her school life. I ultimately decided to keep the second book, in which Sparkella and her father learn from and teach each other. The first book was about how Sparkella and her father deal with and navigate situations when they are worried about the outcome.”

According to the celebrity, his second book will be about how children and parents deal with change and expectations.

“I thought it would be great to do something with the dad and Sparkella about when Sparkella has ideas and they don’t work out,” he adds. “When things don’t go as planned, it’s about changing your perspective. “Is it possible that your ideal situation could be improved?”

Tatum teased The One and Only Sparkella Makes a Plan on Twitter, and PEOPLE has the official story synopsis:

“Sparkella is looking forward to her first sleepover with Tam. A glitzy gown to dazzle? Check! Isn’t that the best tea party you’ve ever attended? Check! A collection of entertaining and motivating games? Check! She can’t wait for Tam, who is due to arrive in a few hours, but first she wants a palace fit for two royal highnesses.”

“However, no matter what Sparkella does, the castle refuses to function. It’s too difficult to find leopard stones for the wall! She uses cardboard to get to the second floor! The nails are dull and lack luster. Sparkella is dissatisfied and concerned about the completion of her castle. “With her father’s help, she quickly learns the value of patience and coming up with new ideas when previous plans fail.”

Tatum also discusses how a day spent creating with his daughter Everly sparked the idea for the second Sparkella film.

“Everything I write in these books is based on real-life events with Evie and myself,” he explains. “These things, these tiny stories, are basically inspired by my experience living with and learning from an 8-year-old.” “

“This one is from a day when Evie and I were making a birdhouse. We didn’t have the supplies she needed, and the materials she did have wouldn’t have been able to do what she wanted anyway.”

Watching her struggle to figure out what she wanted to do was an eye-opening experience for him. She was adamant that it would work, and she needed someone to help her come up with new ideas on how to accomplish various tasks that were even better than her first idea. That’s how Evie assisted me in writing it. ‘In reality, it was just her being herself,’ she says.

Tatum told PEOPLE that Everly’s refusal to wear a favorite outfit to preschool inspired him to write Sparkella.

“It was simply something I noticed in my child as she became self-conscious,” he explained. “She wore a cape that, when held out, made you look like a watermelon.” It was one of her favorites. When I asked why she didn’t want to wear it to school, she said it was because she didn’t want to be teased. So I made this story about a special girl who loves to shine.”
